Battery insecure or leaking

How it can appear on an MOT certificate

  • “Battery insecure”
  • “Battery leaking”

What it is

The battery must be held securely in its tray and not leaking.

Why it matters

A loose battery can short-circuit or move in a crash, and battery acid causes damage.

What to check when viewing a car

Under the bonnet, check the battery is clamped down and there's no corrosion or leakage around it.
