Corrosion near a suspension or brake mounting
How it can appear on an MOT certificate
- “Excessive corrosion within 30cm of a suspension component mounting”
- “Corrosion near a prescribed area”
What it is
Some areas of the structure, such as the points where suspension and steering parts mount, are treated as especially important. Corrosion close to them is judged more strictly.
Why it matters
If metal near a mounting weakens, the part it holds could move or come loose, affecting handling and braking.
What to check when viewing a car
This is best checked on a ramp. If it was advised, ask whether the area was repaired and for evidence of the work.
