Wiper blade deteriorated
How it can appear on an MOT certificate
- “Wiper blade deteriorated”
- “Wiper blade missing or obviously defective”
- “Wiper does not clear the windscreen effectively”
What it is
Wiper blades are rubber and wear out with use and sunlight. A worn blade smears or leaves streaks.
Why it matters
Poor wipers reduce visibility in rain, which is a safety risk. Blades are cheap and quick to replace.
What to check when viewing a car
Run the washers and wipers and check they clear the screen cleanly without smearing, juddering or missing patches.
